After twenty-five years in education,
I founded SCHOOL SOLUTIONS as a natural next step in my mission to help students become confident, competent
learners with a bright future. A native Houstonian and alumna of The Kinkaid School and Lamar High
School, I earned a B.A., magna cum laude, from the University of St. Thomas in 1966 and a M.Ed.
in Curriculum and Instruction in 1992 from The University of Texas at Tyler. The focus of my graduate degree
in language acquisition prepared me to work effectively with students diagnosed with dyslexia, ADD/ADHD and other learning
disabilties.
My career includes fifteen years teaching in public and private schools and ten years in administration.
I have the unique experience of having taught in both traditional and Montessori schools and being part of
the administrative team to grow two new high schools. During that time, I served as College Counselor, Director of
Studies, Director of Admissions, Director of Development, and High School Principal.
I qualified as an Associate Member of IECA (Indpendent
Educational Consultants Association) in 2004 and met Professional Member status in 2006.
IECA Professional Members are required to have a Masters Degree or comparable educational training; three years experience
in educational consulting or admissions including one year an independent consultant; a minimum of 50 students advised; 25
campus visits and 25 LD program visits; and professional references from three school admission directors. I have visited
120 day schools in the Greater Houston area at least once and 25 traditional boarding schools. In the 2010-2011 school
year, I visited 45 Houston area day schools, including 9 visits to schools I had not seen. I also visited six boarding schools.
I seek out opportunities
for professional growth so that I am prepared to meet the needs of all children whose parents seek
my services. In the past six years, I have earned over 300 hours of professional growth on topics
such as educational testing, preschool assessment, gifted and talented education, dyslexia, autism, non-verbal learning
disability, ADHD, executive functioning disorders, special education law, as well as best practices in educational consulting.
